Sonalysts is seeking a part-time candidate with advanced knowledge and experience in acoustics, underwater sounds propagation and sonar signal processing to support various Undersea Warfare related projects, including work in support of the U.S. Navy Submarine Security Program and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) - Newport Division. 

 

The primary responsibility will be to provide acoustic propagation modeling and sonar signal processing analytical support to projects as diverse as Submarine and surface ship sonar system performance prediction and analysis, Torpedo sonar system performance assessment and the development of sonar tactical decision aids for U.S. Navy fleet implementation.  The position will also involve serving as part of a multi-organizational team of acoustic experts tasked with investigating current and future threats to Submarine stealth and security.

 

Salary ranges between $80,000-$130,000, dependent on experience, education and specific qualifications, and other relevant business criteria.

 

 Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) TOP SECRET security clearance*
  • Master’s Degree in Acoustics, Ocean Engineering or related technical degree such as Oceanography or Physics (focused on acoustics) or be a PhD candidate with over 1 year of required coursework completed
  • Experience with modern analytics software tools (e.g. Python, MATLAB, Mathematica)
  • Experience with C++ programming language

Preferred candidates will possess the following:

  • Possessing a current U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance*
  • PhD in applicable discipline (Acoustics, Ocean Engineering, Oceanography, Physics with Acoustics focus)
  • Experience with Operations Research and Operations Analysis techniques
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning including application of those techniques to acoustic modeling and sonar signal processing
  • Previous experience analyzing U.S. Navy sonar systems performance, including propagation modeling
  • Previous experience developing U.S. Navy sonar tactical decision aids
