Sonalysts, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer to work with a project team that is developing hardware and software for the next generation of mission-critical torpedo systems. A prospective candidate will monitor the development throughout the program according to the project’s Software Development Plan (SDP). Activities include developing audit checklists, participating in software reviews, performing software process and product audits, witnessing test execution, and reviewing lifecycle data for process compliance. We’re looking for a process improvement problem solver who has a passion for improving software development processes and auditing. We want someone who is proactive and has a self-directed attitude, with a willingness to take ownership of their work. Attention to detail and strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are essential to be effective in this role.

 

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will collaborate with the Engineering Process Group (EPG) and a multidisciplinary team of engineers and subject matter experts to develop audit checklists using the project’s SDP, participate in software reviews, perform software audits, witness test execution, and review lifecycle data for process compliance. General responsibilities include:

  • Develop Process Audit Checklists: Using project plans and working with the EPG and the project team, develop process audit checklists of the processes contained in the plans.
  • Perform Process Audits: Using process audit checklists, audit all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Process Improvement: Work with a variety of technologies and frameworks, with a willingness to learn new ones. Use analytical and problem-solving skills to improve processes used on software and hardware development projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical degree
  • 3+ years of recent software quality assurance and auditing experience
  • Experience working with the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 environment and/or Department of Defense (DoD) engineering processes
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle phases and the work products generated in each phase
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET security clearance*

 

Desired, but not required, qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Systems Engineering
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of:
    • Confluence
    • Secure Software Development Framework
    • Software Development, Unit and integration testing
  • Knowledge of US Navy torpedo systems, especially the MK 48 Heavyweight Torpedo
  • Experience collaborating with Government agencies on development projects
  • Possessing an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET (or higher) security clearance*

 

*Obtaining a U.S. Government security clearance involves a comprehensive background check.  Candidates are eligible for a clearance if they have demonstrated sound financial management (including good credit) over time, are free of criminal records, have limited foreign contacts or ties, and other factors indicative of a position of trust to protect information sensitive to the U.S. Government.
